Limes

The term Limes is commonly applied to the frontiers of the Roman Empire

Rome’s Frontiers ran from the West Coast of northern Britain across Europe to the Black Sea, from there south to the Arabian Peninsula and across North Africa from the Red Sea to Morocco.

All in all, this frontier extended over a length of more than 5000km. Today, it can be identified and studied at the hand of remains of forts and fortresses, watchtowers, walls and ditches, roads and associated civilian settlements.
